My Expertise

I am Kit Harrison, a native New Englander. In 1979 I left my job behind with Southern New England Telephone, where I had worked for 6 years, as one of the first “Supply woman” positions in the company. I have resided in Norfolk ever since.

After being a stay at home Mom for 2 children, I ventured back into the work world by volunteering at the Edgar Casey Foundation, CHKD oncology department and Lee’s Friends. After divorce, I realized I needed to earn a living. After advising Lee’s Friends that I would have to find a paying position, they created one specifically for me. I worked there for a year. Meanwhile I began my legal career as a 2nd job in January 1995, by providing contract discovery services to the law firm now known as Hoffheimer Family Law.

In 1996 I was offered a full time position with the firm and worked as a discovery/litigation paralegal for the next 11 years. During this time I prepared documents, worked with Scheduling Orders, and discovery deadlines on a daily basis. I worked closely with the attorneys preparing for hearings, settlement conferences and often attended court and commissioner hearings with the attorneys. When collaborative meetings with Plaintiffs, Defendants and the attending experts occurred, I would often attend with the attorney. I dealt with clerks of the courts on a regular basis. I also arranged for service of process with local process servers, and process servers throughout the Commonwealth of Virginia, and the United States.

In 1999, I pursued court certification in basic and family mediation, volunteering with the Dispute Settlement Center for four years. I also worked part-time for 2 years as a mobile notary for home closings.

In January 2008, I became the Office Administrator for 3 small companies that were working together under one roof, Inquisitor (a private investigative firm), Associated Claims Specialists, LLC (a debt buying company), and for Swartley Services (a private process service and private investigative firm). During this time, I became familiar with general liability insurance, workers compensation insurance, managing employees, setting up data bases, and all the other various duties of a manager. I became a registered private investigator, and for the next four years helped do many online locates for clients. In July of 2008, the partnership split, and I continued working as the Office Administrator for Swartley Services through December 14, 2013.

I was the main contact for many of Swartley Services legal clients and their staff, providing a central source of communication for any requests and/or changes that may have been necessary in their service needs. I organized daily routes, and was responsible for preparing, notarizing and arranging return of the affidavits via e-mail to the client, and their return to the courts. I also arranged with other process servers, for all out of area or out of state service requests.

As of December 15, 2013, I ventured out on my own, after purchasing the process service portion of Swartley Services. As Owner of Harrison Process Service, my aim is to bring my 28 years of experience in the legal field into play, as I have the unique understanding of what the attorneys, legal assistants and paralegals expectations and needs are. I expect to continue providing the very best service of process that Swartley Services clients came to expect. This experience enables me to give you the reassurance that your documents will be served when and where you need it; whether it’s local service, in state service or anywhere in the United States.
